Carrie Grogan Abbott
Carrie Grogan Abbott is the director of First-Year and Transfer Programs. In this role, Carrie directs the work of University units associated with welcoming, orienting and supporting first-year and transfer students from entry into the University and throughout their first year. Bringing nearly 20 years’ experience in higher education, Carrie has served roles in Study Abroad, Student Activities, Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, and Facilities Management. Originally from Bedford, NH, Carrie holds a master’s degree in Higher Education from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Ithaca College.
Butch Hallmark is the Assistant Director of First-Year and Transfer Programs. In this role, Butch selects, trains, and supports the 44 Orientation Leaders. He is also responsible for the planning and implementation of Syracuse Welcome and Winter Welcome. Butch earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama, where he also served as Big Al — the University’s mascot. He continued his education by receiving his master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at the University of Alabama.
Donna Edghill McLellan
Donna Edghill McLellan joins the Office of First-Year and Transfer Programs as the administrative assistant. She began her career at Syracuse University in Parking and Transit Services, where she served for more than 15 years. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from Falk College, she joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Donna works closely with work-study students, as well as provides administrative support to the director and assistant directors in the office. Donna also enjoys reading, dancing (Classical Kathak and Bollywood), cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
