Pre-Welcome

Traditionally occurring one to three days prior to Syracuse Welcome, new students are encouraged to participate in a Pre-Welcome Program. Organized by interests and identity spaces, programs offer students the opportunity to meet and connect to fellow new students in small groups. From outdoor adventure to on-campus acclimation, there are programs for all interests!

Are you the first in your family to attend college? This program is specifically designed with the needs of Syracuse University incoming first generation students in mind! Come meet other first-gen students and participate in this helpful transition-focused program. Sessions will include study tips, how to navigate the University, managing your finances and more. The program is led by first-gen student leaders known as 'Cuse First Leaders (CFLs). You’ll feel more prepared for your first week of classes after this informative start to your Syracuse University career!

Syracuse Hillel is proud to offer FreshFest, a three-day Pre-welcome program for 100 incoming students and 50 upper-division student FreshFest mentors. Move-in early, learn about Jewish life at Syracuse University, get to know campus and the Syracuse area through a variety of activities. You'll be paired with an upper-division mentor who will welcome you to campus and answer any questions you may have about your experience.

Our Nya weñha Skä:noñh Welcome and early orientation invites Indigenous students to arrive on campus three days earlier than the rest of the incoming freshman and returning students. This provides an opportunity to get your bearings, learn where your classes are, where your residence hall is, meet your roommate, and begin building a sense of community with other incoming Native students. This will prepare you to begin your first year at Syracuse University!

The Leadership Outdoor Orientation Program (LOOP) Adirondack Adventure is designed to give incoming first-year students a jump-start on their college experience while engaging in outdoor adventure activities including a low and high element challenge course, hiking, flat-water kayaking and canoeing, as well as campfires and starry night hikes. This program provides an opportunity to move-in to your fall assigned residence hall early and then go off-campus to the serene setting of the Oswegatchie Educational Center, located within the majestic Adirondack Park region of New York. The $265 program fee will be billed to the student's Bursar account in Sept. 2021.

Join your classmates on an adventure that will be sure to kick your first year into high gear! During this program you'll develop various skills on our outdoor "Odyssey" style challenge course. Throughout the program you will not only get an opportunity to experience all the high element challenge course has to offer but you will also "learn the ropes" so to speak. We will teach you the basics of challenge course facilitation as you develop skills that will help you on your journey through college such as positive relationship and trust building, effective communication, resiliency and determination, as well as the ability to think through and solve problems; not only as an individual, but as a contributing member of a team and larger community. The $185 program fee will be billed to the student's Bursar account in Sept. 2021.

Have you been wondering what programs are provided for Muslim students on campus? Well, you've found one! The Muslim Student Life Mentor Program is run by our Muslim Student Life mentors and ​gives Muslim students on campus an opportunity to meet new people, receive peer advising, find resources on campus and explore your new campus, all before even starting your first day of classes! You will get to know the campus, find your classes and create a network in hopes to make you feel prepared and ready to begin your first year at Syracuse University!

Student veterans will enjoy an introduction to the Syracuse University campus and engage in conversation over dinner. A full day orientation will be held the following day focused on veteran resources, student support services and services provided by Hendricks Chapel. Students will also be led on a campus tour. Every student that attends this orientation program will have the opportunity to be paired with an on-campus student mentor that will help them learn about all the opportunities that campus offers. This Pre-Welcome program is open to all first-year and transfer military veteran students.

Are you transferring to Syracuse University? Transfer Transitions is a two-day program designed to help new transfer students find the answers to their questions and prepare for their academic career at Syracuse University. Sessions include an introduction to academic resources and services, tips on getting involved in campus life and how to navigate campus.  You will have the opportunity to connect with other new transfer students and the Transfer Transitions Leaders (TTLs), who are returning transfer students who will serve as a resource throughout your transition to Syracuse University! The $50 program fee will be billed to the student's Bursar account in Sept. 2021.
