Spring 2021: Move-In, Check-In, Pre-Arrival Testing

It is encouraged to complete required tasks as soon as possible. Failure to complete requirements may result in losing the ability to register for classes, additional charges and/or a Conduct Hold on your student account, hindering studying abroad, participating in Fraternity and Sorority Affairs and more.

Required Tasks (All Students)

Throughout your time at Syracuse University, your NetID and password will help you access digital platforms such as your SUMail email account, MySlice, the Patient Portal, the Wellness Portal and more.

Due: Immediate Action

Complete: Available on the top right of your admission notification, please use your SUID number to activate your NetID and password today!

Prior to arriving to and throughout your time at Syracuse University, you will receive important and timely information. It is encouraged to access your SUMail email account often.

To speed up the check-in process, students are strongly encouraged to upload the results of their pre-arrival negative COVID-19 test, proof of flu vaccine or flu vaccine exemption to the Patient Portal prior to arrival at the check-in center.

Contact: If you have questions about the pre-arrival testing requirement, please contact the COVID Project Management Office. If you have questions about your personal test result, related personal health concerns, or about the Patient Portal, please contact the Barnes Center at The Arch.

No Action Taken: All Syracuse University students returning to campus (including those who live off campus) for the spring semester must participate in pre-arrival testing. A negative pre-arrival test is required to move into campus housing. For students living off-campus, a negative pre-arrival test is required to access campus classrooms and facilities.

No Action Taken: Students who do not comply with this requirement will not be able to attend in-person classes, participate in on-campus activities, use on-campus facilities, including residence halls, the Barnes Center, libraries and labs.

To confirm semester registration, your Bursar student account must be current. This means either paid in full or covered by anticipated financial aid (aid that has been awarded but not disbursed). Accounts on the Monthly Payment Plan are billed monthly and installments payments must be current.

Knowing When a Bill is Ready
An email notification is sent when an electronic bill (e-bill) is created and available to view on MySlice. If you are on the Monthly Payment Plan, you may pay for the semester in monthly installments. Explore the billing and payment schedule on the Accounts and Billing webpage.

Sharing Access to Bill
Share My Access is a feature used to set up parents/guardians to receive notifications of e-bills. This allows students to provide their parents/guardians with their own account and password necessary to view financial information online, as well as other University information.

Establishing a Financial Aid Plan
Additionally, you may establish your college financial plan with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs. Call 315.443.1513 or email your personal financial aid counselor for more information.

Complete: To pay your bill, using your NetID and password log into MySlice and explore resources under “Finances.” Find step-by-step instructions on the Accounts and Billing webpage.

Your health history and immunization forms must be uploaded to the Patient Portal.

In accordance with New York State law, the following vaccination records must be submitted to the Patient Portal by the due date below.

  • Two Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations
  • Meningococcal meningitis (Type A) vaccination within the last five years and after the age of 16

If you choose not to obtain the Meningococcal meningitis (Type A) immunization, please complete the Meningitis Waiver Form in the Patient Portal. Please note, if you are under the age of 18, a parent must complete the Minor Consent form.

You may obtain these records by contacting your high school or primary care physician. If you have any questions about your vaccination records, please contact your primary care physician. By appointment only, Barnes Center at The Arch Health Care is available to assist you in obtaining the appropriate vaccinations if you have not been vaccinated or do not have documentation of your vaccinations.

All new students are required to complete a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Questionnaire on the Patient Portal.

All students whose dominant language is not English must take the English Language Placement Exam.

Benefits of proactively submitting an SUID photo include ease of pick-up at Syracuse Welcome.  If submitted before the due date,  SUID cards will be available upon Syracuse Welcome residence hall check-in or if commuting, at 206 Steele Hall, Housing, Meal Plan and I.D. Card Services.

Syracuse University offers students a platinum-rated health insurance plan administered through Aetna Student Health. Each year, all full-time, matriculated undergraduate, graduate and law students must enroll in or waive out of the Student Health Insurance Plan through their MySlice account. Students within traditionally online degree programs are not eligible to enroll in or waive the Student Health Insurance Plan.

No Action Taken: Students must enroll or waive the Student Health Insurance Plan by the above date. Failure to take action or receive an approved waiver by the date above, will result in automatic enrollment into the Student Health Insurance Plan and the anticipated premium fee to remain on the student's Bursar account. Additionally, this will result in a delay of active insurance coverage and access to insurance cards.

As a new student and throughout your Becoming Orange journey you will participate in community wellness activities that build connection, promote community well-being and help you learn more about health and wellness resources and programs. Failure to complete these required tasks will result in a Conduct Hold, hindering class registration for next semester and more.

Your safety is important to the University. The Department of Public Safety is a professional, full-service campus law enforcement agency committed to promoting a safe and secure educational, cultural and working environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

The campus community, is asked to sign up for Orange Alert, our crisis alert notification system. Orange Alert uses text messages, phone calls, e-mail alerts, social media notification and a siren to provide rapid notification and instructions to members of the University community only in the event of a critical incident in progress.

Visit the Center for International Services Check-In webpage to complete the International student check-in. Upon arrival, all International students are asked to complete this process, allowing the Center for International Services to verify Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) information. This includes confirming that each F-1 and J-1 student is attending Syracuse University.

Additional Required Tasks (Student – Veteran)

Whether you are a new first-year or transfer student, we hope you will visit the Veterans Resource Center to explore available resources and services.
