Courtney grew up in Liverpool, NY, a suburb just north of Syracuse. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2007. She completed her Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at Syracuse University in 2011. Before working in the Office of Student Activities, Courtney served as the receptionist in the Center for Career Services at SU, and as a student employee in the Office of Human Resources. In her spare time, Courtney is an avid sports fan (Go Orange! Go Dodgers!) and also enjoys exploring the world with her family.

Native of Baltimore, MD by way of Charlotte, NC, Tim Johnson is a graduated of North Carolina Central University where he obtained his BA in Psychology. From there he received his master’s degree from UNC Wilmington in Higher Education Administration. Tim is coming from Guilford College, where he was the Director of Student Leadership and Engagement for the last two years. Student Engagement is his life passion and he knows that this field is his live purpose and working with young people fuel him to be better each and every day. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, has a deep appreciate for GOOD music and is an avid shoe shopper. As a lasting quote Tim lives by this mantra of “Faith is where the impossible lies, and when we begin to tap into that, we can achieve anything”

Lorena was born and raised on the north shore of Long Island in Glen Cove, NY before making her way upstate to pursue an education. She graduated from SUNY Cortland with Bachelor’s degrees in both Sport Management and Communication Studies with a concentration in Public Relations and Advertising. While at Cortland, Lorena had the opportunity to work as a tour guide, an orientation assistant, director of marketing for a campus magazine, and as the major events chair for the Student Activities Board. Her favorite event she’s ever worked was the 2014 NYC Marathon. Through her heavy involvement on campus Lorena realized her passion for working events and getting the opportunity to make others happy. She looks forward to immersing herself in the culture of Syracuse University and assisting in the growth of the Orange After Dark program.


Cateatra Mallard

Cateatra Mallard

Assistant Director, Office of Student Activities

Cateatra Mallard is a native, born and raised from the Washington D.C./ Metropolitan area. Cateatra received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from her “Home by the Sea,” Hampton University. Shortly after, she returned to her alma mater to obtain a Master of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in College Student Development. Before arriving at Syracuse University, Cateatra began her journey in Student Activities in 2011 at Hampton University. Since then, she has served as the Co-Curricular Program Coordinator at Virginia State University (VSU), and Coordinator of Student Involvement at Radford University. Cateatra absolutely loves her line of work and is involved with several professional associations. She is a trained dancer, lover of music, and member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity. She absolutely loves traveling, laughter, shoes, spending time with her family, and binge watching a good series. Cateatra looks forward to serving the student of SU, having a positive impact, and enhancing the student experience!

Kayla Cabrera is a native of sunny south Florida, where she received her undergraduate degree from The Florida State University. Kayla then pursued her masters degree at Florida International University, there she worked in the Campus Life office with the Student Programming Council and the Homecoming Council planning all types of events for the campus. Kayla is passionate about working with students and helping them create the best campus experience for the University. In her spare time, Kayla enjoys cooking, dancing, reading her horoscope and making TikToks!

Greg is originally from Marcy, NY, a suburb just north of Utica. He received his Bachelor of Science in both Accounting and Real Estate from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management in 2012. While at SU, Greg had the opportunity to be a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, as well as study abroad in London, UK. He looks forward to bringing his passion for the University into his work and help foster the positive environment that he experienced.

A native to the Central NY region, Matt grew up in Chittenango, NY. He received his bachelor’s degree in Digital Media Arts from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. Matt completed his master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at Syracuse University in 2013. While completing his graduate degree, Matt interned for the Office of Student Activities. Prior to his current role as Program Coordinator, he worked at SUNY Oneonta in Residence Life, Athletics, New Student Services and Alumni Engagement. In his spare time, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and son, and collecting vintage toys and comic books. Matt is excited to be back at Syracuse and looks forward to working with students!

Jeffry is a native of Syracuse and received his bachelor’s degree in Communications and Political Science from Le Moyne College. While at Le Moyne, Jeffry was involved with Student Government, Resident Housing Association and was a Resident Advisor. Jeffry spends his time playing basketball, listening to music, and playing the guitar. He is excited to be a member of the Office of Student Activities staff working with Orange After Dark to improve the unsurpassed student experience.

MaryJo grew up in Newburgh, NY, a suburb north of New York City. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Labor Relations & Human Resource Management from Le Moyne College in 1990. As an undergraduate student, MaryJo was social chairman and volunteer coordinator of Pi Nu Epsilon Sorority. Before working as an Office Coordinator, she worked in the Labor & Employment Law Department at Hancock Estabrook law firm. Her passion is to volunteer at the Rescue Mission and “pay it forward” through community involvement. She currently serves as the President of the Liverpool High School Girls Lacrosse Booster Club. She enjoys spending time with her family and watching her daughters play lacrosse. She is excited to be working at Syracuse University and is looking forward to interacting with students!

Vincent is from Holtsville, New York, a small suburb in Long Island. He received his bachelor’s degrees in Communication Studies and Film from the University of Rhode Island. While an undergrad at URI, he was an intern in the Center for Student Leadership Development. In addition, he ran a nonprofit at the university. He is now pursuing a Masters in Higher Education at Syracuse. You can usually find Vincent at the sporting events. He is very excited to be part of the Office of Student Activities team.

Merci is from Bloomington, Illinois and received her Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University. While studying at CSU, Merci was involved as a student tour guide, a member of Pi Beta Phi, an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, and dedicated her honors thesis to increase student engagement on campus tours. She is now pursuing a Masters in Higher Education at Syracuse. You can usually find Merci cooking for her friends or trying a new coffee shop. She is excited to work with students and be a part of the office!
