The Syracuse University Conduct System is an educational process designed to assist students in their decision-making. This is done through a variety of means.
Informal Resolution occurs between a student and a conduct officer from either the Office of Community Standards or the Office of Student Living.
As a result of an unsuccessful Informal Resolution, a case will be forwarded to the Formal Resolution process, where it is heard by the University Conduct Board.
Should either party not accept the outcome from the University Conduct Board, they may appeal that decision to the University Appeals Board. The outcome from the University Appeals Board is final. Review the appeal form.
Request for Review
Once an informal resolution is reached, the decision is final and will only be revisited based on one or more of the following:
- New information not reasonably available at the time of the informal resolution, the absence of which can be shown to have had a detrimental impact on the outcome of the informal resolution;
- Procedural error that can be shown to have had a detrimental impact on the outcome of the informal resolution;
- Errors in the interpretation of University policy so substantial as to deny fair informal resolution;
- Grossly inappropriate sanction having no reasonable relationship to the charges.
In such a case, the student or student organization may submit a written petition for reconsideration of the case to the Director of the Office of Community Standards or designee within three (3) business days of the informal resolution meeting. Requests for review must be written and signed by the student. The decision of the Director of the Office of Community Standards or designee upon reconsideration is final.
