Some University Statuses result in changes in a student’s conduct standing, which can impact the experiences in which students can participate. Changes in Conduct Standing: Understanding Disciplinary Probation, Suspension, and Expulsion
Behaviors that may result in a status of Disciplinary Probation include the following:
- Lighting candles or incense in campus housing;
- Physical altercation;
- Possession of a weapon, hazardous material, or unlawful material;
- Possession or use of illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia;
- Retaliation;
- Sexual harassment;
- Stalking;
- Multiple violations of the Code of Student Conduct;
- Any violations of the Code of Student Conduct when currently on a status of Disciplinary Reprimand or Warning.
On Disciplinary Probation, students may not be able to participate in Syracuse University Abroad, rush a Greek organization, be a resident advisor, or participate in any campus activity or experience that requires “good conduct standing.” For more information about restrictions while on Disciplinary Probation, contact the specific office or program in which you are interested in participating. Restrictions on participation while on Disciplinary Probation are made by individual offices and programs.
Behaviors that may result in suspension or expulsion from Syracuse University may include the following:
- Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of unlawful drugs;
- Improper use, attempted use, or threat of use of a weapon;
- Interference with, tampering with, or improper activation of safety and security equipment;
- Lighting any unauthorized fire on University property;
- Manufacture, sale, purchase, or distribution of illegal drugs or controlled substances
- Physical harm causing significant physical injury to another person;
- Retaliation;
- Sexual assault;
- Sexual harassment;
- Sexual intercourse without consent;
- Multiple alcohol and/or drug violations;
- Multiple violations of the Code of Student Conduct;
- Any violations of the Code of Student Conduct when currently on a status of Disciplinary Probation.

Students who have been suspended or expelled from Syracuse University are not permitted on University property without permission from Community Standards.
