Move-Out Guide for Off-Campus Students

Preparing to Depart Your Off-Campus Residence

Complete the Off-Campus Move-out Registration Form (see email from Robert D. Hradsky, Ed.D., Vice President for the Student Experience, sent on April 30, 2021).

Start early. You likely have accumulated more belongings while living off-campus.

Pack all of your belongings.

If you are storing or shipping your belongings, make arrangements early and be sure to meet your chosen vendor.

If you are receiving assistance from friends or family, be sure to adhere to the Stay Safe Pledge, social distance, wear a mask, and wash your hands/use hand sanitizer frequently.

Check your lease for requirements on what you are expected to do prior to departing.

Typical expectations of a lessee are:

  • Sweep or vacuum all floors;
  • Clean all bathroom sinks, showers/bathtubs, toilets;
  • Clean kitchen sink and counters;
  • Clean inside of refrigerator;
  • Wipe down all surfaces.

If your are donating items, make arrangements to take items to the agency or have the pick it up at your home, if the agency is able and offers such service.

Remove all trash and recyclables and place into proper receptacles.

Take photos of the condition of your space when you leave, documenting the condition. Be aware that damage and excessively dirty rooms may be grounds for your landlord to withhold your security deposit.

Turn your key in and contact your landlord as specified in your lease.
